Tanya Wunderlich is a Program Assistant in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington. She helps manage several NIH Fogarty programs that provide funding for students and medical professionals from Kenya and Nepal to pursue their MPH or PhD in Global Health at the UW. After receiving her BA in Strategic Communications from Seattle University, she discovered her passion for global health by working at a Seattle-based nonprofit called Pilgrim Africa. As a Communication and Donor Relations Coordinator, Tanya gathered and shared stories from constituents in Uganda who were being trained to provide lifesaving care for malaria through indoor residual spraying and mass drug administration. Seeing the impact that local donors were having on supporting sustainable health systems and policies in low-income communities, she was drawn to her current position, where the Fogarty programs she supports create a sustainable cycle of medical and educational advancement in Nairobi and Kathmandu as the trainees return home and join the workforce. Tanya’s favorite aspect of working with eDGH is getting to witness the professional and educational growth that the eDGH courses provide for her program’s partners in Kenya and Nepal.
