About my site

My site is Kenya Nairobi Aga Khan University Hospital. I have been a site coordinator since January 2019. Our site was established via a grant that we received (NIH D43), one of the aims is to build capacity through online courses embedded on the UW e-learning platform. Aga Khan University has branches in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Pakistan. Participants are drawn from these branches as well as institutions that we collaborate with in relation to research. Some of the collaborating institutions are Kenyatta National Hospital(KNH), University of Nairobi (UoN), Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Ministry of Health-County Government of Kilifi, Pumwani Hospital, Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Village Reach amongst others. Village Reach has its presence in various African countries namely, Cote D' Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Liberia and Mozambique. We have had some participants from these countries which made some of our courses rich with knowledge and culture. At the onset we had one facilitator for the courses and as time went on, we included more facilitators who are conversant with the subject matters e.g.in mental health we engaged a psychiatrist, in wellness we had the privilege of facilitators from family medicine department, and currently in epidemiology we have a biostatistician. Some of the facilitators were participants at some point. All the facilitators have added a lot of value to the participants and vice versa. The facilitators have been of great help to me as a site coordinator and what has really motivated them is the fact that they will add value as well as getting a certificate. There are departments within the institution that have requested to be registered for courses and I have been able to walk with them in regard to how facilitation needs to be done. In the process I have trained other administrative facilitators within the institution. It has been and continues to be a journey of adding significance for all those involved.
