Are you interested in helping others apply what they are learning in their workplace and community? Can you encourage people to learn from each other while motivating them to complete an online course? If so, consider becoming a site coordinator and registering to host a site with eDGH!
eDGH is pleased to have collaborated with hundreds of sites across the globe to support more than 150,000 enrollments in our courses!
What Is a Site?
A site is a group of participants who enroll in a course to learn together in a collaborative environment. Sites are composed of participants within an organization or local geographical area who can meet regularly throughout the course (at least four times, or weekly if possible).
Sites offer opportunities for:
- Peer-to-peer learning
- Networking
- Keeping participants motivated so they finish the course
- A potential reduction in course fees
Sites typically offer additional technical support or opportunities for participants to access the course materials if they have trouble doing so on their own. Sites are coordinated by volunteer site coordinators who register the group and manage participation at the site during the course. Many sites are also assisted by a facilitator(s), who guides discussion throughout the course and may serve as a content expert or otherwise support the site in a leadership role.
What Does a Site Coordinator Do?
Read about what’s involved in being an eDGH site coordinator, including an overview of the primary responsibilities.
The site coordinator is a volunteer role that supports an online course at a local site. Site coordinators play an integral part in how we deliver online courses to participants around the world, and they serve an essential role in the blended learning model we use by providing learners with support they need to succeed.
As site coordinator, you would:
- Encourage participants to apply for the course.
- Communicate via email with eDGH staff.
- Attend an online course orientation webinar.
- Organize and remit the site fee payment on time.
- Organize regular, real-time group meetings for your site (at least 4, but more are encouraged).
- Take attendance.
- Assist participants in accessing the course online.
- Receive and disseminate certificates of completion to the site participants.
Some courses benefit from a facilitator to guide rich, meaningful discussions for participants. Ideally this person has a background in the content of the course and classroom facilitation skills. A facilitator is not required for all courses.
Depending on the staff and availability at your site, the facilitator could be a different person from the site coordinator, or the site coordinator could serve both roles.
The facilitator would:
- Use the Site Facilitator Discussion Guide that eDGH provides to facilitate a group discussion.
- Pose discussion questions to help participants adapt and apply concepts and practices to the local setting by sharing ideas and experiences.
- Provide feedback on the coursework.
- Coordinate final presentations of participants (for certain courses).
- Serve as content expert for content-related questions for participants enrolled at your site.
What Are the Course Topics?
Though our courses are global health-related, many of the course topics can be applicable to people working in other fields. Course content and examples are based on global health issues, but participants can apply the concepts to their field and local context.

How Do I Register a site?
Site registration for each of our courses opens 3 to 4 months before the course starts. You can find a listing of our site registration dates here. When site registration opens for the course you’d like to apply for, you can submit your application to host a site.
How will participants join my site?
When registering a site, you will provide eDGH with your site’s name. When participants apply, they will be able to select your site on the application. You can spread the word within your organization or network and let prospective applicants know about your site and encourage them to apply for the course you’re hosting. You’ll be able to track who has applied with your site through tools we’ll provide you during the application process.
Your site is welcome to have as many applicants as you want. However, to qualify as a site, you will need between 5-50 participants moving forward with the course. After applications close, you’ll have time to review the list of people who’ve applied with your site and let eDGH know which applicants will be proceeding.
