About this Course
Overview
Research shows that health professionals are at high risk for burnout. Many health professionals report at some point in their career experiencing constant physical or emotional exhaustion; being easily irritated and frustrated; the inability to focus or think clearly; and lack of sleep or too much sleep—all symptoms of burnout. These experiences were heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wellbeing for Healthcare Professionals is a nine-week course taught by University of Washington faculty, Britt Yamamoto, PhD, founder of Perennial, a community-based leadership non-profit organization in Seattle. The course will guide you in creating a wellbeing practice tailored to you that will benefit your day-to-day life and serve as a valuable tool during challenging or stressful times.
In this course you also will learn more about the importance of wellbeing, the science behind wellbeing, the connection between wellbeing and burnout, internal and external obstacles to wellbeing, and how wellbeing impacts the larger community.
By better understanding these important concepts and building a daily wellbeing practice of your own, it is our hope that by the end of this course you will have the tools, skills, and knowledge needed to prevent burnout in your professional career and be able to thrive in your work and life.
