About my site

Makerere University-Johns Hopkins University (MU-JHU)/MUJHU Care Ltd is a research organization with a long-standing history of clinical trials that have influenced health care policy globally. Our mission is to improve the health status of families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS through research, training, prevention and care. MUJHU has participated in over 5 global health e-learning online courses of the University of Washington. Juliane has coordinated two of these courses and is committed to hosting at least one course annually. During the course, participants meet weekly to discuss course materials and reenforce learning. Priority is given to those within the organization, however there may be opportunities for additional participants who are interested in learning with us!

Bio

Juliane Etima is a Ugandan living in Kampala, Uganda. She is a behavioral scientist with training at masters level in counseling psychology and an alumni Centers for Disease Control – Makerere University School of Public Health HIV/AIDS fellow trained in HIV/AIDS program management and advanced qualitative research methods. Juliane is the director of the psychosocial support division at Makerere University-Johns Hopkins University (MUJHU) Research Collaboration. Her career ambition is to make a significant contribution to the lives of children and adolescents infected with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers. She is a keen observer of national and international trends related to the promotion of child and adolescent health through various means which includes conducting quality clinical and behavioral health research and practicing good clinical care to improve child survival especially in communities found in developing countries such as Uganda. This has led to her growing interest in ensuring that women do not get infected by HIV as this will be a major contributor to stopping transmission of HIV from mother to child. She has extensive experience in the provision of pediatric social, emotional, educational, and psychological support and she seeks to use this experience to inform clinical practice that will improve the well-being of children and adolescents.
